Re: Simplify3d basic guide
Well if anything, S3D is providing a lot of changes into the new Cura. I like Cura's interface a lot better.
But I would also like to be one of the gurus, like Neotko and others, than can really take advantage of the software for superb prints.

Re: Simplify3d basic guide
Well I had to learn S3D because for my stuff it's the best option to make 'out of the box' stuff and also is the best to control big amounts of objects split in many parts that need different settings for each part. To do my keychains with Cura would be just imposible atm.
So is S3D better? I'll just say what I said on one of the first posts, IF you sell stuff and need to go beyond normal prints, yes. If not, just use cura, it works nice to click print. Also new cura has some neat options that close the gab between both programs.

Re: Simplify3d basic guide
So far my experience with S3D has been very good. Slicing is done much faster than cura, and the print preview is fantastic. I have not played with much settings yet, but I definitely see useful applications for most of them. The idea of processes really appeals to me as well. I've not needed them much yet, but I'm sure I will be using them in the future. They sure allow you to do some interesting stuff rather easily.

Re: Simplify3d basic guide
I'm trying to use Neotko's profile and change the filament diameter to 1.75mm
The weird issue is that it seems the machine while using this profile still tries to retract 4.5mm of filament, despite me changing the value to 2.0mm or 1.0mm
For me it's important to use those lower values in order to not jam my E3D v6 head.
Anyone has noticed a similar strange behavior?

That's weird. Can you post your profile to double check?

Re: Simplify3d basic guide
Are you perhaps using multiple processes? I've had issues before where I thought I changed some setting but midway through a print discovered it wasn't right, only to find out I had changed it only in 1 process in stead of all of them.

Hi Neotko,
Here's my profile, I'm not sure whether it is the nozzle wipe function causing the issue:

Re: Simplify3d basic guide
I don't see anything weird on the profile. Maybe I would remove the coasting and cut wipe distance.antiklesys wrote:Hi Neotko,

Oh also an important thing. If you use wipe distance and activate Retract while whipping, the amount of wipe only depends on the speed and amount of retractions.
Anyhow... Umm make a gcode, a simple cube and check the gcode generated.
The only bug I had with s3d retraction is when one uses two processes and two different extruders, then S3D goes crazy and if you use retract while wipping, it gets the value of toolchange retract and makes all the wipes of the retraction distance + toolchange distance. Making quite a lot of stress on the feeder (and lots of weird noises).
Edit. the option is called 'Perform retraction during wipe movement'. Also I recommend you use the option 'Only wipe extruder for outer-most perimeters'. All in Advanced tab. Also remember that I do minimum 0.50mm retraction distance because I use bondtech. With the mk7 I was using 1.00mm and 0.50 only for the text parts, but now with the bondtech I use 0.50 and 0.25 sometimes.

Re: Simplify3d basic guide
Also, change the retraction speed to the extruder speed. I think umo+ has 25mm/s limit by default. I changed this on mine, but in the end I work with 25mm/s to avoid the pitch of the noise XD or 100mm/s for flexibles ofc.

Re: Simplify3d basic guide
Hi Neotko,
I'll have a look at this. Right now I'll continue experimenting and may need to change drastically those values in the future as I'm planning to switch to a direct extruder.
As I run on 1.75 mm filament that will also the best way for me to start playing around with flexible filaments
Hopefully, if all goes well: bowden long be gone!
