Stepper Motor Question

Hello,
I am building a rotary axis based on the Narosenberg design.
I have an OMTECH machine with a DM542T stepper motor controller (https://www.oyostepper.com/goods-111-Di ... Motor.html).
I checked the dip switch configuration and it is configured for 3.5A full current and 5000 pulses/rev.
I am not quite sure what 5000 pulses/rev means. Does it mean 5000 pulses for 360 degrees?
I have tested temporarily attaching a NEMA 23 motor to the Y axis and the motor vibrates but does not run properly.
I cannot find a datasheet for the DM542T controller.
Can someone help me with the motor specs?
