CR-10S Bed heating part way-Thermal Runaway

I need some help with this one. I got a used CR-10s and when I head up the bed, it will stop heating part way.

- I set the bed temp to 60 degrees and it will head to 51 degrees and then sit for a bit and give me a Thermal Runaway error.
- If I set the bed to 70 degrees it will go to just over 60 degrees and do the same thing.
- If I get the bed heated to 50 degrees and then change the setting to match the 50 degrees it will drop a few degrees and then give me the error again.
- voltage to the bed while heating is reading 51 V and then when it gets close drops to between 13-18 volts.
- I bypassed the connector that goes to the bed and into the housing and wired it straight to the board to rule out a bad connection point, the same issue.
- I wired in an MKS MOSFET, same issue.

Any ideas on what I should check next before I start buying and swapping out parts?

Check your wires to see if they are loose.

I recently had a CR-10S do this and sure enough, the power leads were pretty wiggly

I would also check where the leads plug into the control board. Many China printers use tinned leads into the connection block, which isn't good and can even fail. I removed the tinned leads on mine and use ferrule connectors.

Check both ends before replacing parts!

I opted to replace my CR-10S bed with a new one. (https://amzn.to/3yhRLt3)

So that brings up an interesting point. The bed in the link is a 12v bed. The one on this printer is a 24v bed. Any Potential issue there?

I did already remove the connector as I saw that could be an issue.

Yeah the CR-10S is a 12 volt bed (stock).

It looks like that machine has been modded a good deal. I noticed that firmware says "v2d2", did you make/compile that?

There are many posts on reddit about CR-10S and modding them for 24v. It can be done. It just means anything 12v on that machine has to be changed once you put a 24v power supply on that. Every cooling fan, part fan, hot end fan, the bed heater and hot end heater cartridge!

I did not compile it. I got it used and have only tried to fire it up and get it running. There was a Raspberry Pi with it but it was not hooked up. I'll try to reconnect that and see what happens.

Might be an Octoprint setup

It sounds like you got ripped off - it's happened to me!
