Another feeder jam wrecks a print
Looks like I need to get this filament guide printed ASAP. This is the fourth jam, different filament spools. A truly maddening experience.

Definatly annoying, it does seem that towards the last part of a reel the curavature is a bit tight and puts increased drag and pressure on the feeder, I know it can be a pain but with Faberdashery I buy 100m loose which has a larger free diameter. Ok I need to spend a few minutes to place it on my holder, but I don't get that feeder jam.
The only other thing to do would be to wind it onto a filament holder of your own to loosen the whole reel and then print from there, but I would print a filament guide.
Or you could get a Bondtech feeder, very good, although slightly more noisy.

I just can't believe the problems I am having with this machine.
Between Cura 2.3.1 being a mess to work with and these frequent jams. I thought the 2+ was supposed to be so much better than my UMO? Less tinkering, more printing? If the Prusa i3 didn't have a 5 week backorder....I'd hang it up and buy one of those!

I think with the 3mm filament the last bit on the roll is almost set to the tighter curl, the smaller 1.75 mm filament doesn't get this 'set'. What is the background room temperature like in your print room?
With this set as you can see from your photograph the angle the tangent comes off the roll is wrong into the feeder adding to the feeder force required.
I didn't bother with the 2+ upgrade, now I'm running with the Bondtech feeder and about to install the matchless head, I think it's better than the 2+, I just need to print off my little label ">2" or ">>2"
And the Bondtech has the grip and torque to deal with some test filaments that the other feeder couldn't handle.

Bondtech has contacted me, letting me know they offer a good solution.
It's really weird how these filaments are tangling up...only had this happen once or twice in the UMO over 3 years.
I wonder if it's just the alignment of spool position to extruder, as another gent suspected.

I like the Bondtech, it's a little noisier and runs a bit hotter if you are doing a lot of retractions, I was thinking of adding a 5V cooling fan run from a USB to cool it a little.
But it has good torque to cope with awkward filament and could also handle Kai paths laywood Flex pushing it through a 0.4 nozzle fine when it kept failing on the Roberts feeder mod, although Kai does say to use a 0.5nozzle minimum

The knob piece, Cura screwed up one edge
And it looks like I might have to scale the round part up a percent or two. Tried to fit the bearing and the part shattered. Oh my bad luck continues

Don't force nGen, it's not as 'plastic' as PLA.

I don't get how you can have this many problems, you have already had more problems than I have ever experienced with the UM2+, and I have 2 myself and run a bunch more at work for in total thousands of hours. I have never used a filament guide and use the standard spool holder...

I just want to be the dumb user...that just uses Cura, makes the model, sticks the SD drive in and can print!

NGen is nice to print with, it just when producing a bearing guide with nGen and PLA with a snug/ slight interference fit, the nGen failure was more brittle.

I've been getting good results overnight with the parts for the filament guide.
I will trying printing the next one at 102% scale and see if that gives me enough room for the bearing
I think I found the secret to those "hairy" prints...no change in temp (230), bed (80) or retraction speed (45mm/sec) I did change the distance to 5.0 mm (was 4.5) No whispy hairs
