BB-8 Frame print

Post by LePaul »

14.5 hour print, first one on the Ultimaker 2+

Used glue stick and bed temp of 65 (first print flew apart 1 hour in)

Cura 2.3.0

I think I should try the 0.8 nozzle and cut the print time in half!

Looks nice! How much more prints do you need before it's finished?

Well....I need 23 more of those! And that's just the frame structure.

Printer donations welcome :)

I think it would be neat to do this in 0.8 1/2 the time and I wonder how good the details would be (holes, etc)

If you stick to the same layer height, and we're printing 4 skin thickness at 0.4 which you now print 2 skin thickness at 0.8 there should not be to much difference, I don't have much experience in the larger nozzles I play around with the smaller ones.
It's worth a try.

We'll 0.8 is a fail. It seems to keep clogging itself up

Maybe you need to increase the temperature a bit. If you print at the same speed and layer height, your flow is now twice as high.

Went back to the 0.4 nozzle (non ruby) and similar problems.

The clicking sound I think is your feeder skipping

Well it must be a matter of tweaking settings for 0.8

I did a small calibration print...that came out fine. It seemed to take longer to prime the print head but eventually flowed well

Now we're a few hours into another 14 hour print.

I find that with a 0.8mm nozzle I have to drop the temperature by 20 degrees in ABS, something close to that in PLA.

Yeah, when I go to .8mm I increase the temperature by quite a lot too. Like 20-25 degrees.
