Orientation plugin
Orientation plugin
I've finally found some time to make a quick wrapper for the excellent algorithm created by Christoph Schranz. It calculates the optimal orientation based on overhangs of the object.
Note that it's a quick & dirty implementation on my end, but it should do the trick.
You can find it on; https://github.com/nallath/CuraOrientationPlugin
It should work with Cura 2.3

Re: Orientation plugin
I can't wait to test this on some BB-8 pieces
Re: Orientation plugin
It's going to freeze up your GUI at some point. I'm still working on ensuring that it won't do that anymore.
Re: Orientation plugin
I fixed the freezing. Models still take quite a bit of time to complete though.

Re: Orientation plugin
One thing I noticed is that a curved piece I would struggle to align in much much easier to move around now.

Re: Orientation plugin
Well, maybe I spoke too soon
Pieces like this are really tough to line up (and darn near impossible with S3D's non-mouse ability to move an object around)
Note getting the sides even...
The goal is to get it as vertical as possible (use a lot less support)

Re: Orientation plugin
Yeah, still an awful time.
But I like how Cura allows me to move/rotate much like SolidWorks and other CAD type programs
