@rigs have a good one probably (I don't have um2) but since I know he uses s3d and he kick ass, it should be fine:

Izzy wrote:I went down to a local reseller this morning to get some ColorFabb filament, and whilst there we were chatting as you do and I got a demo of Simplify3D :-P , I was impressed and so purchased a copy, and I must say I really do like it, the print quality is definitely better it seems to control the printer to a finer degree.
The only thing I would like to do is change some of the starting script to bring it back to the Cura settings for starting and priming, Simplify3D is just slightly slower and has an extra X movement and a wipe before starting the print which I would rather cutout.
Does anybody have the details of an editor I can use to interagate a Cura file or list the beginning for me. :geek:
Cheers, Izzy

I keep hearing that...better results. But I need to clear my schedule some evening and sit down to the tutorials. Just rotating and moving an object around in Simply3D seems crazy hard Cura may have it's flaws but I can rotate something all around without the pain S3D seems to show.

So I am struggling with the basics (still) of how to make a good profile for the Ultimaker Original with Heated Bed.

Add to that, the custom fan shroud...where 14% fan is pretty much the equivalent of 100% from the old stock fan

Extruder setting...I think this is fine? Let's start here.
CaptureExtruder.JPG
Now the temperatures for the nozzle and bed

Well just did a first print with Simplify 3D and not much fun...

1) Once I started, it went to the home position, then shifted to the right, shaking...then slow extruded some material

Here' what the top of the gcode looks like...

Now what?

First think to change. Set extrusion ratio to 1.00 not 0.90
Ofc then you need to go advanced and change the 3.00mm diameter of the filament to the real size of your filament (2.85mm or what the caliper says)

Also change nozzle size from automatic to 0.40

On the Layer tap change first layer height and extrusion to 120 or 140. That will make a good sticky first layer (depends on your print speed/calibration)

Also remove extra retraction distance. That setting needs custom adjustments in conjunction with coast/wipe. And that highly depends on how much/less drip you have.

You can also set retraction speed to 35*60=2100 I think. At least my UMO can manage it.

Ah yeah, on preferences you can change all from mm/m to mm/s like cura

Better just get the gcode start from Cura and paste it on the gcode start of s3d

One think I saw on your gcode start, you have first layer height smaller than the normal layer height

; firstLayerHeightPercentage,90
; firstLayerWidthPercentage,100

You should increase that indeed, not decrease it. Smaller layer height for the first layer will have harder adhesion. And both % should be the same, otherwise you make a 90% line with just 100% of width, that's a thinner line than just 100% on both. For example, if you print 0.2 layer and on cura you used the first layer to do 0.3, then use 140-150% on both, so the first layer it's actually 0.3ish height.

I'm at work so I'll check it out tonight

Maybe I'm lazy but I wish their default Ultkmaker profile was a bit better!
