My prints lean forward!

Post by LePaul »

Anyone else ever run into this?

Someone at UM said to check the Y motor pulley, the set screw could be loose

Thankfully it's easy enough to get to...unscrew motor and untangle from belt.

I just HOPE that's the fix.

Mark the pulley/shaft. Print something very fast. Then check the marks to see the culprit.

Ah good pro tip...see if we have some slippage

I'll be curious if the set screw is loose at all. How tight should the belt me? I can move it about a half inch so it isn't super tight

It looks to me as well as pulley slippage...

Well I found the pulley to be perfectly fine...the belt could be tighter...so I pushed down on the stepper as far down as it'll go and the belt feels tighter. Test print under way!

Test print came out great...so it looks like the belt was too loose. I really cranked hard on the pulley/set screw and it moved slightly...so hard to say if that did much

Putting the stand offs back in on the far side of the motor wasn't much fun, I think the UMO+ uses something different

Well replaced the motor pulley with a 2-set-screw version

Maybe the other pulley, attached to the rod, needs a major twisting

I've used an allen wrench to tighten every Y axis pulley. They all took some tightening but none were obviously loose.

I also tightened the belt again

Doing a test print now

Well no more leaning

But wow. So many blobs

Now wait...when I thought about replacing it, the opinion was to leave it alone? :)

And keep in mind this is nGen, not PLA, so my thought was bad settings for the filament

Now I still have a bag of print head parts from the dual extruder option. Or..should I be using a newer version to replace it?

Get the spare one, test all works. And if you ever install the dual, buy one.

Ok, I'll have to dig up the manual to properly dismantle and install it
