CR10s5 with SKRv3 firmware help

Post by LostontheMoon »

Hello this is my first post. i sort of jumped the gun and followed along with this Youtube video on modernizing a CR10s5, the issue is that because there is yet to be a follow up as to how it all comes together, ive been left to my own devices to complete the upgrade...

I've had my S5 since I started printing 4 years ago. It’s been a powerhouses but I've been looking to give it a few modernizing upgrades with the help of that video. I purchased the SKR V3 (not the EZ version) along with the EZ2209 driver carts. I've also went a bit bougie and hard wired a raspberry bi 3b to the main power via a buck converted set to 5.7v(i heard that was a good voltage somewhere). Lastly I've thrown that bulky electronics box across the street and decided to mount everything underneath the printer to make it an AiO with the help of a hodgepodge of modified Thingiverse projects so that’s real neat.

My primary issue however and the topic of this post is that I'm now struggling with the Marlin firmware. For the life of me I can’t get the screen to display anything so I have no idea if anything is actually working or not. I’m using the old stock display that came with the printer which originally has two cables attached to 2 posts on the board, is there something I have to switch up when it comes to the V3? ive set my mind on Marlin as that is what im most comfortably with and what im familiar with. i really can't spare the time learning Klipper as im sure someone is going to suggest i use instead.

Everything except the part cooling fan seems to be on(the hotend always-on fan is on). The BLtouch is lit red and it actuates on startup like normal, the CPU fan is blasting, the red light on the Pi is solid while the green light is ticking(I assume that means it working), and the motherboard itself has a red light which according to the user manual means it's operational. What am I missing? I followed the user manual for Marlin setup, HOPEFULLY plugged everything where it’s supposed to go(though I fear I may have gotten mixed up since the stock board has different naming for its ports compared to the V3). I compiled my firmware from scratch without using any config examples however using the latest build 2.1.2.5 which I suspect I may have forgotten to enable something vital being the problem... im actually 100% sure i just forgot to specify something vital in the firmware.

I really want to get my printer up and running but I’m just having a bad time right now. Does anyone have suggestions on troubleshooting or even the same setup I could copy off of? i can provide any VSCode or Marlin files if needed.
