What's interesting is it worked for a while then stopped working. Looks like recalibrating worked

I don't own a UM3, but wouldn't fixing that involve removing the cover, adjusting the mainboard slightly, then securing it back in place? Often, these screws might have some play, and if the cover and board shift relative to each other due to the screws, it could lead to this issue.

Not owning a UM3, but addressing this could entail uncovering the device, tweaking the mainboard alignment, and resecuring it.
I think fixing and tweaking the mainboard alignmet is now need a renovation after 6 years...
