Print quality suddenly gets worse

This is the PLA I'm having trouble with, I think. The tower is very strong for all temperatures.
I've done some small prints today and they are good, I used 220°C.
I'll look at the esteps, this isn't going to be easy as I have to take the printer out of the enclosure to measure the filament. It will need to be a warm day.

I think I may have a lead after reading this post: "Mysterious Missed Extrusion"
He suspects the a temperature drop, I think I'm getting the same thing. I did a test with the nozzle about 100mm up from the bed and left it for 2 hours set at 220°C. The temperature fluctuated from 170 to 180 using a meat thermometer, as that's all I have.
I'm going to strip down the nozzle and replace the heater and thermocouple.

Oh yeah, that'll do it

I know I do an auto pid on my hot end and bed. I also print via Octoprint so that gives me a good graph showing the temp accuracy during the print
