Stinging

Post by Lez0 »

Hi all
I'm using Cura 4.11 and I need to stop this stringing.
What are the setting should use so the head doesn't to into the centre of the part as shown, I have tried various thing and this is the best I can come up with:

This is a test print.
Material is TPU so impossible to trim the part:

This has to be difficult as TPU as I have heard is famous to stringing.

Would you be in for a slicer change that I have thought was one of the best free slicer ever.
If so Try Prusa slicer It has a web link to several 3D Printer configurations an a custom configuration.
I start with a Ender 3 Configuration then make changes to match my 3D Printers characteristics.
This is an amazing slicer with functions that only can be obtained in expensive silcers.

In My opinion it is worth the configuration time and effort.

Thanks for the advice Roberts_Cliff.
I use Prusa slicer for my resin printer, but never used it for the FDM.
Do you know if it's possible to have 2 types of printer so I can switch between the 2, I don't want to screw up what I have set up for the Resin printer.
Or can I have 2 versions on the same PC?
I tried this when I first installed it and totally screwed everything up.

Yeah if this was PLA I would say it could be temp or retraction distance

But with TPU, that largely goes out since you rarely have much retraction with TPU

I found this on YouTube

I have multiple configurations for ABS and PLA Filament.
And even though all three of my 3D Printers are the same for my Hictop Profiles
You can see I have a few one for Each of my Octoprint modules.
And a couple for Each of My model Hictops 3DP11 and a 3DP12.
Actually guess have a lot more individual 3D Printer Profiles that I first thought, shown in Photo Below...

Thanks LePaul.
I'll do the tests and see how they go.
One thing.
I can't have any stringing on the inside as it will be a long tapered tube that fits over something. It will be impossible to remove any internal stringing.
That's why I want to eliminate any internal travel of the nozzle.

Thanks for the advice Roberts_Cliff.
But I looked at Prusaslicer and it may be very powerful but it doesn't even have my printer in it, I would have to manually input all of it's info. I could do that but I wouldn't know where to start with setting it up, never mind finding a way to stop it printing in the middle.
I think I'll pass on this as I've spent a few years with Cura and I don't want to spend a lot of time getting into this software when I need to get these prints down.

Sorry to hear this. I found that PrusaSlicer works so well that in my opinion it was well worth this simple conversion effort.

Still use Cura on many projects though in some special cases prefer using PrusaSlicer.
I came into this 3D Printing as a hobby to learn all I could.

I got to the stage that I sliced the part, but it looked the same as Cura with stringing in the middle.
I'm trying various options and I'll let you know how I get on.

Post your slicer profile and the Model STL File, I will do my part helping to create a working Prusaslicer profile for you.

Thanks, the STL file is about. I've been trying different things, like retraction setting, I did 10 towers, 2 failed.
I put a post on the Cura Community Forum, but haven't got an answer yet.
I don't have a complete Prusa profile as I don't have everything set up.

Here is the Cura profile if it's any help.

I have also played with the test part, I put a 0.4mm wall on the inside to stop the nozzle from going into the centre. It worked.
The small amount of stringing at the bottom is easy to remove.
I just need to cut the slots after printing.
I don't know how it will work out on the full part, it's 180mm tall.
