Show off My latest Print

Post by Xeno »

Wow, am I the first to kick this off 8-)

I must say I rather like the way we post our latest print in one big forum post, instead of everybody doing his own subject posting,
this gives a fun overview, and is more easy to discuss and commend ones work :)

so Here I go...

This is part of an ongoing project for a new movie, that hopefully will see the light of day :)
I printed a set of badges and painted them is several versions, to give an idea where they want to go with the final look of the badge.

and a SciFi looking gun, that still needs a lot of work, and has primer on the main body,
the top rail is made from brass, as the printed version was too flimsy.

For the gun, a really cool thing to do could be this:

Ofc since there's no app that does that, you could do an approximation, this way the gun could spin on the hand with an almost perfect equilibrium (could be really cool).

It is a neat idea, but most of my work is for show only,

The finished gun will probably be molded when finished, and the resin made heavy, so it feels real in hand :)

Wow, those badges are really looking nice Xeno.
Did you do some post processing after printing but before painting? What size are they approximately?
I have been printing lots of things with text on them, it is a very convenient way of marking things, but I tend to not get that nice finish on the letters.

They are hand size, and comparable to police badges,
the finishing was pretty easy, just sanding, and a lot of primer/filler,
the colors were done with Humbrol paint, and lot a drybrushing, and highlighting.

the chrome version was just a lot (too much) filler primer, and fat layer of chrome spray paint,
the nozzle of the chrome paint was terrible, and you can only do a thick layer :)
and it stays soft for several days ;-)

Hi Zeno, look great very much " Judge Dread" What would they come out like in ColorFabb Brass or Bronze and then either tumbled or part polished, they produce great results on raised text etc.

Yes a lot of Dredd influence :)

With the Brass / Bronzefill, they'll probably be more heavy, but it would also be more labor intensive to get the same look,
and more expensive ;-)

I love to paint objects, especially scaled objects :)

Numbers are about 20cm high. Don't think you can find this in the shop :)

I'm sure my wife'll love a bottle of that stuck to our wall.. I'll make sure to tell her.
Perhaps an alternative for the other front corner of the house :)

Not the most advanced thing I have printed, but much needed: A copy of the "dump box" for our Jura espresso machine at work.

We have bought too many of these lately since the original one has the same color as coffee and thereby gets thrown away with the waste :-?
Red ABS should both withstand the heat and be easier to distinguish from waste coffee :)

Made a slim version too, more suitable for 3D-printing, I might upload them on youmagine later.

You have to tell the truth from day one and make it sound exciting :)
I brought my wife to have a look at this thing on our first date:

And she strangely accepted that one of my hobbies is cutting trees :)

I take the printer with me to various places quite often and always find it cumbersome to transport, independent of how I carry it.
The lack of a good grip on the UM2 to lift it in with one hand makes it difficult to open the boot of the car, open a door, swipe the access card and press a code and such things.
One ends up kind of balancing the printer with one hand, while doing everything else with the other hand, constantly afraid of dropping the printer in the floor/ground/snow/mud. :-?
So tonight I finally designed this:

lol @ the "remove before printing".
Wouldn't go so well if you didn't :)

I just know that at some point it will sit there when I start the printer, so a reminder does not hurt :)
First considered to design it so that it is automatically pushed off if hit when printing, but was lazy to go through all that design work, a simple reminder will have to do the trick.
