Printer missing parts
Hi all
I have a strange problem.
I have a largish print, 210mmx290mmx60mm and it has some bad areas.
This hasn't happened with any other prints. I thought it may have been a simple glitch, so I reprinted it only to get the same problem.
Material Sunlu PLA plus, bed 60°C Hotend 200° to start with, I then increased it to 210°C. Print speed 75 mm/sec, reduced by 10% during print to try and solve the problem, it changed nothing.
I have printed other parts of this size but in a different colour. As you can see from the photos it is only in certain areas.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what could cause this?
Thanks
Lez

Re: Printer missing parts
What are your Slicers settings.
Speed, Infill, shell thickness
I have a recent print where the outer wall was so thin on the corners that it was transparent.
This was caused by a Infill of less than 20%, wall thickness .8 and a infill overlap of more than 10%

Thanks for the reply.
0.9 Wall section, infill 20%
I have printed many parts with the same setting no problem.
I can't understand why it would only be in the front of the casing and not the back, the case is semitrical.
I reduced the print speed to 45 mm/sec for 75 and it made no difference.
I am going to try with a different PLA and see what happens.

Re: Printer missing parts
Since that seems to happen largely in one spot, I wonder if that is where your stop/start of each layer is? Are you using coasting?
It's odd it's only at the middle layers.

Re: Printer missing parts
I think it is connected to the post in the large printers: Folger FT5 feed problem.
Thanks

Hello; @Lez0
It's been about a week and have not heard, how is the print working out!

Re: Printer missing parts
I was doing another print with different settings and it helped a bit, until the print stopped 75% finished with an Thermal runway error.
Printer is in bits awaiting a new cable. Problem was the cable to the extruder, well I hope that was the problem.

Re: Printer missing parts
I had several cable and solder connections breaking in the time I have owned my 3D Printers.
Not sure if myself for improperly routing or the manufacture for improperly soldering or crimping the connections.
Even have had EFI problems from the Cabling to the LCD / SD card reader problems. the LCD would display garbage at times.
Reading the SD Card would fail in the middle of a print causing 3D printer to stop in place, Still heating and melting filament.
Fixed by wrapping all ribbon cables with blue painters tape to allow for an easy removal if needed for the outer grounded Aluminum foil duct tape.
Then moving the LCD from the top to the front my 3D Printer aluminum frame which seems to have solved my LCD/SD card reader problems.

Re: Printer missing parts
I sometime get the LCD displaying garbage. I just simple press the button to select something and it all comes back.

Re: Printer missing parts
Update on the problem.
I replaced the problem cable and I have been printing small parts that are coming out OK.
The printer is a Folger FT5 R1, no upgrades.
I tried printing this part again. I use Cura 3.6
Material PLA
Layer Height 0.25mm
Wall thickness 0.8mm
Infill 20%
Print speed 70 mm/sec
No supports
These are the settings that I used before and got a perfect print.
As you can see one corner outside has a problem and one corner inside has the same problem. These are at the back of the printer. The front corners are perfect. It look like a directional thing, but why only one place outside and one place inside.
This make no sense. Any ideas would be welcome.

Re: Printer missing parts
I believe this location is where the layer height changes and where you do a retraction for layer change.
On the model seen here would most likely disable the retraction settings, do not believe are necessary.
Think that your retract distance is too large or the retraction speed is too slow with a too fast of a print speed.
There are many articles on how to adjust your retraction here are two of the better written articles.
Some articles go on for what seems like forever and tell you nothing about how to adjust or configure your slicers settings.

Re: Printer missing parts
Hi Roberts_Cliff, thanks for the reply.
Yes I have retraction on. I understand what you are saying with the change in height. This problem occurs on opposite sides at the back, on the inside on the right and the outside on the left, does that theory still hold?

Re: Printer missing parts
What is your layer height set to? Looks pretty high. Try 0.2 or 0.15.

Re: Printer missing parts
Not really.
Can you tell me the size of the model. The temperature you are printing.
Do you hear clicking coming from the extruder. What is the filament flow rate set to

Re: Printer missing parts
The model is 210mm x 290mm x 60mm
Bed 60°C to start then down to 40°C after first layer. I started to do this with PLA to get better print quality as the extruder doesn't have a fan for the nozzle, only the motor.
Nozzle 200°C
No clicking. I increase to amps on the extruder motor a little so be safe, can't remember what I made it.
Flow 70mm/sec. I have printed a lot of PLA at this setting and had no problems.
This part and others of this size have been printed 4 times now without a problem. I am making 6 prototypes.
