Well I am trying to dial this stuff in to print a bit nicer on my Ultimaker 2+
The instructions indicate it wants hotter...I printed at 210 and I probably should do 220.
It's the top of the print that makes me think hotter would not be ideal tho?

Re: Polymaker Polywood filament
I think it's OK. The side walls are good, the leftovers at the top can be wiped off with a finger.
Do you like the quality of this stuff?

Re: Polymaker Polywood filament
It's a small roll and we really want to make a Groot with it
I'm going to try a cooler temp, maybe 200 or even as low as 195

Re: Polymaker Polywood filament
I am guessing that each manufacture uses different material to get the wood effect.
I use Sunlu and it prints with the same settings as PLA and give excellent results, I did a Groot as well.
Yours seems a bit more "wood" than plastic colored wood, if you know what I mean.

We got a good result...a few stringies here and there but perfect for a wooden Groot

Re: Polymaker Polywood filament
Okay so I was meaning to come back here and give some information that might help others.
This stuff, which like a lot of wood filaments, is very stringy. I found I had to increase the retraction distance 2 mm more than my usual stock settings (6.5 mm on the UM2+)
Temps, well they advise some high temps but in my testing, 192-197 seemed to work best.
I still had a few whispy hairs and I suppose a bit more retraction distance (or even speed) might have solved that.

Re: Polymaker Polywood filament
Have you tried different temps for different layers? Hotter tends to darken (scorch) the filament, lower temp is lighter color. Worked for me on my Hatchbox Wood PLA (although I had to sand and polycoat for it to show).

Well this is an imitation wood...no wood filament in it to scorch

Re: Polymaker Polywood filament
The one added detail I will add, while it is fresh in my mind...this filament could look under extruded in areas if the temp was too low. I found on one print, 197 was a tiny bit too low as I started to see tiny gaps. But nudge the temp to 200 and things looked better.
This is one of those filaments where I would really suggest some retraction test prints from Thingiverse and others. I know I am tempted to just do a calibration cube and see how that appears, then try a large print. That bit me in the rear end
