The MATERIAL.TXT project

Postby LePaul » November 5th, 2016, 9:31 pm

Well, I added nGen to mine (scroll to bottom)

Maybe we can come up with a master file for a variety of filaments?

Re: The MATERIAL.TXT project

Postby LePaul » November 5th, 2016, 11:07 pm

Well I learned a few lessons already...

1) Despite the retraction settings in the MATERIALS.TXT, it seems Cura will completely ignore them. I went to see if the retraction settings would show in Cura, only they were ENABLED shows. I went to do my first print and sure enough, the printer was retracting out the maximum default value, at the maximum default distance and speed. This caused a fair amount of work to get the filament back into the print head while removing the Bowden Tube to trim the thin trail of blobs.

2) I went into the Materials , nGen and Customize to make sure the default retraction values were correct. They were not. I corrected and hit Store as Present to save them.

3) I am trying the 14 hour BB-8 print now. Sure enough, the retraction bug hit again. I again had to get the filament back into the print head and while the bed was heating, manually go in and correct the retraction distance and speed.

So...there's a few glitches in the process of using your own settings and Cura playing nice with them

Cura is proving to be a challenge to work with, I am beginning to appreciate 15.04.2

I still use 15.04.6 for all my prints :)

I'm so used to having temp and retraction control from the UMO days. I'm still adjusting!

I am noticing that I loose my MATERIAL.TXT settings when the machine is powered back up after being off.

I have to keep uploading it from the SD Card despite following the instructions to Save

It could be that it will only hold the details of a number of materials, the older version would only hold 14 profiles. Try deleting a profile you don't use and see if it then retains your nGen settings

Any settings for Ultimaker Flex-PLA and/or InnoFlex 45?
