Re: Crappppp Ultimaker 2+ feeder
If I remember correct, you bought a refurbished/used UM2. Maybe that's why it came without the simple filament guide. Attached is the code for the stock filament guide generated out of the original UM2 STEP files. Should print in a few minutes and then you have at least something until you get the bearings and can print a better one...

Correct a refurb UM2
I'll print that out tonight
I also had a brief chat with Erin from Fabrc8, asking if she's ever seen this before. She said it sounds like a hexxed spool and sometimes happens. She's offered a replacement spool of filament.

Any tips on printing that? Vertical? Sideways?

Re: Crappppp Ultimaker 2+ feeder
From stability point of view I think I would print it laying on the side with the little notch opening up upwards. If I open the STL in Cura here, it opens exactly in that direction. With support obviously.

Here's the model I am trying to print in Cura, so you can see the bottom-center area that is failing lately

So have they done away with the filament guides?

Re: Crappppp Ultimaker 2+ feeder
Em, can't see the logic there, I'm looking at the materials general curvature from the reels to the feeder and I'm going to design some better filament guides, likely with bearings to reduce that dreaded friction again

The filament guide of the UM2... never used it, if you ask me it just adds friction because of the very weird angle it adds to the filament path, i just print directly from the spool and never have any problems with that.

Re: Crappppp Ultimaker 2+ feeder
It seems like I am not the only one that's had weird feeding from the spool issues, based on follow up posts on the Ultimaker site.
A very annoying problem to have!

Re: Crappppp Ultimaker 2+ feeder
Well two new spools of Ultimaker brand PLA arrived this morning
I didn't have time to mess with the Ultimaker 2+ last night. I had a number of people needing some aluminum parts made, so I was playing with the CNC machine for several hours instead.
I won't do any long prints until the bearings arrive...I can at least print out those pieces

Re: Crappppp Ultimaker 2+ feeder
I'm beginning to think I need to do an atomic pull. A few prints in a row, not a lot of filament coming out prior to print.
3 fails tonight. Grr.

Re: Crappppp Ultimaker 2+ feeder
I. Just. Don't. Have. Words.
I tried to print the parts for the filament guide mentioned earlier.
I figured I would let Cura fly on Easy Mode....why make it angry with settings. Bed temp raised to 67 and for good measure, some diluted glue stick.
The one part that needs support came out "ok" the first layer seemed to have trouble and the rest printed with a couple tiny blobs.
The bearing holder and other parts, I let Cura again print all at once with brim and the Normal Quality setting.
First layers looked OK so I walked away.
Came back 45 minutes later to a giant glob of material sticking inside of fan, giant melted globs and string.
You know, a week like this makes me reminisce of that days I ENJOYED 3D printing.
I seriously have no idea what is going on with this Ultimaker 2+

Re: Crappppp Ultimaker 2+ feeder
That can happen when a part of the prints sticks to the nozzle and filament starts to crawl around it. I called Chultu effect
That's what can happen if you catch it much later:
