I found your car and have your kit! :)

Seriously, record your upgrade. We'd like to see how well it goes!

it does surprise me that on the UM forum there are quite a few problem with installing... With 'tinker-fingers' it should be a piece of cake, but if you're not used to take your machine apart there is always a chance that things don't work like they should..

Opened up the box and then closed it again as I noticed that TinkerGnome hasn't had time to modify his firmware for the modifications yet.
I'm really not going back to stock.
I'll do the upgrade as soon as he has a new version out.

As for recording: I've had my machine apart pretty much to to the panels before already. Also had to replace the PT100, installed that Olsson block and so on. I expect the upgrade to look like the clip UM made about it, only a lot more boring :)

BTW: If there is specific stuff you guys want to know of to get pictures from, let me know, that is of course something I don't mind doing.

I would be interested in specifications of the new fans and the new stepper motor. Are the details readable on the parts or have they relabled them like they did with the UM2 fans?

The fans have been relabled with the known UM sticker.

The stepper states:

MOON'S STEPPING MOTOR
TYPE 17HD6482-01N
60582847 16/02/02

The stepper motor model sticker was posted by IRobertI

I'm very interested also on the fans specs.

Specially how much current they draw.

The fan states DF0301012BM-501. On the UM forum there is someone who posted the specs:
DF0301012BM (side fans) means:
30 - frame size of 30mm
10 - thickness of 10mm
12 -12V
B - ball bearing
M - speed of 8000 RPM (educated guess by comparing to other fans)
They appear to be the exact same fans as the original UM2 ones.

Isn't that post about the 25x25 hotend fan?

Fan cap fans are 30x30 (at least the ones I have from ultimaker that are quiiite mehh)

Sorry I jumped to the link too fast. I see

Well. That sucks. The air this 30x30 fans move its horrible. I will have to start designing a 40x40x20 fan cap for my umo+2

Strange, didn't they say that they included "improved" fans? Or have they used these improved fans maybe already for quite a while on the standard UM2s?

I thought there were "quieter" fans and directed straight down now

Could it be that it is the same sh...y fans, but they do not make as much noise anymore as they are not running in an odd angle to their axle/bearing anymore? If I recall correct, the cheaper bearings have preferred directions and more or less destroy themselves soon if you run them not in this direction.

They are indeed directed straight down now, but they appear to be the same fans.

What is Souson?

Is it that much more expensive to use a magnetic fan I wonder... Haven't seen/heard of ball bearing fans in ages :)
