I'm not convinced by these. They seem to need 24V direct power plus a protection board O_o

This is not very different from the other ones...
None of them are protected against back-emf.

They do native 256 microsteps and can be configured via UART.

Now for standard 16 micosteps (or interpolated) the 2100 are good as well...

So, if i buy these tmc2208 and, for example, rumba board for my um2, can i reach same speed and other benefits of umboard and silent of sss at the same time? Is it real?

The TMC definitely outperforms the Allegro drivers.

I am going to upgrade my UMO as it is an easy and not that expensive update on the 1.5.x boards, but I am not sure I would throw away teh 2.X board from my UMO+ just for the stepper drivers...

I think the starting point would be to print/buy the parts you require to make your modifications.
If you have something in mind for your Ultimaker I'd be glad to help out.

More Updates!

My P.I.N.D.A. like sensor just arrived.

I did test the probe on the bed and it works WONDERFULLY just like it does on a Prusa i3 MK2.

I did start re-working the design of the modular head I use in order for it to be able to mount this sensor.

I have just upgraded the extruder to E3D Titan and ordered the silent step stick drivers.

I can say that the Titan extruder is DAMN QUIET! Works like a charm and I mounted it directly on the UMO frame in place of one of the X/Y motors (as I'm on direct drive).
The thing is incredibly small, I was surprised when I opened the box.
I only had a small issue with the 2.85mm filament guide as the hole was too small so I had to drill it bigger.
The parts for 1.75 mm filament instead were perfect.

I then added Neotko's mod to home at the bottom and did some firmware tweaks and improvement.

I'm working to switch to a direct extruder as of now so that would allow me to print 1.75mm flexible filament.
As the head will / may change drastically I did put on hold my work for the PINDA sensor for auto bed leveling (but I tested it working okish with the old head).
