I can just hear the god of 'how to bugger it up" tapping on the shoulder of the god of "bad luck" and saying ' you sit this one out, I've got it covered'
Izzy.

Yeah, just start out with the original rods and the UM2 printhead :-)

What about the hot end and shroud?

Now that the UM2+ points directly down, should I search for a UM2+ replacement shroud? Or perhaps print one that offerings the improved air flow?

Should I purchase the hot end isolator and olsson block somewhere? (Maybe fabrc8 or gr5's store?)

Yep, you should get a UM2+ fan shroud, a Olsson block, TFM coupler and the rigid spacer from the UM2+.

A alternative to the UM2+ fan shroud is printing Labern's fan shroud in a high-temp material, it even performs slightly better than the UM2+ metal shroud.

I don't see the UM2+ shroud available as a separate piece on Fabrc8 or even eBay

Labern has many versions of that thing! Would this be a job for XT-CF20?

Just send fbrc8 a email, they can definitely sell it to you as a spare part even if it is not listed on their website.

I've emailed Erin & Simon on the hot end parts

Can UM2 slider blocks be used on the UMO? I'm curious how much is interchangeable

They could but you would need to change the endstop positions to be like a um2 & use the longer x/y shafts extra that you should have from the um2+ kit.

If you want to do that, start by opening the step files of umo and um2 (both available on the um2 bom folders at github).

Ahh yes the end stops.

Okay so maybe I'll check out the ones you made on Youmagine. Did you print those in PLA or another material?

No no. Mines won't work just using them. It needs more firmware and stuff to make them work. Use https://www.youmagine.com/designs/twisterblocks for gt2, they are much safer :)

Also i would not try the fullbed approach if you ain't comfortable making your own marlin version from @Amedee build. Not an easy path young padawan

I have a heater block for sale if you want.
It's original just used a few months.

Thanks for the offer, I already have one. I bought the dual extruder kit when I bought the UMO kit back in 2013 so the bag of spare parts has come in handy over the years

I'm just thinking of ways to inexpensively upgrade this thing to make it more reliable and able to continue to print with great quality :)

That's impressive

I'm still debating what to do for my UMO.

I could simply replace the heater block/brass pipe/heater/sensor with the spare parts I have.

I'm also trying to be mindful of the costs to upgrade, if I can. I mean, if I go beyond a certain dollar amount, that's money better spend on another refurb UM2 from Fabrc8 or even a Prusa :)
