What do you think the total cost would be for all the components? I could CNC some of the pieces in wood or aluminum but, being USA, it's hard to get anything in metric.

I'm also curious the price difference would be from kit built to buying one outright

Depending on the cost for the wooden enclosure, I would guess that the cost for this will be in the same ballpark as the alu-extrusion UM2 (& extended) that you can find on Thingiverse.

Are those printers on lazy susans?
That's actually kind of brilliant for easy access to the back.
The UMO are on vibration dampening "legs" I suspect? Don't the UM2's need them?

@Blizz: I have my UM2 also on a lazy susan bearing. I created a nice stand for it from an IKEA Bekväm serving cart and some additional parts. The power cord goes under the UM2 through a whole in the middle down to the power supply which is fixed to the cart. This way I can turn it very easy to change filament, etc. If you are interested, I can create a post with some pictures of it.

Yes, the printers are on lazy susans, it is a very convinient solution for easy access to the filament spool

About the dampening feet, i would not even say that the UMO "need" vibration dampening feet, but it helps with the sound. The UM2's have a lot less resonances, mostly due to the Dibond material.

here another 'lazy suzan' project with marbles: a platform to sit on for making 3d scans

Just popping in here to post a update. Just finished the second rebuild of this machine.

• Replaced the UMO feeder with a Bondtech QR, and mounted it to the front left of the machine, and mounted the spool holder on the left side as well. Now the lazy susans we talked about above are unnecessary, since there is no need to rotate it anymore.
• Retrofitted a UM2 display board and flashed it with a custom version of the UM2+ Tinkergnome firmware.
• Moved the Z home switch to the bottom to enable the same leveling routine as the UM2 series.
• Replaced the plywood slider blocks with the beyond UMO slider blocks by Neotko (https://www.youmagine.com/designs/beyon ... lideblocks) printed in CF Nylon.
• Added printed spacers between the bearings and pulleys.
• Added threaded inserts to replace those fiddly nuts behind the end caps
• Replaced two of the print head plastic parts that had cracked with new ones printed in XT-CF20

Now it should be good for another couple of thousand hours of service at Stockholm Makerspace (www.makerspace.se)

I try to pop in here daily but like many, most of my activities are on the various Facebook groups

I sometimes miss that UMO Original! I had fun learning on that.

How do you like XT-CF20? My UM2+ prints it well and the prints have a nice matte finish. However I don’t feel they are any stronger than PLA. I used it for some fan ducts and mounts on another project and it failed/cracked in a few spots
