It's true I could just use a e3d since the 1.75mm has a inner ptfe liner (I need to print pla reliable also). The think it's that my printer must print pla and carbon. There's also some alu mounts for umo e3d umm... You might be right @amedee

Ahh nonono. The e3d 1.75 version can't go beyond 260 :D. I would have to change inner barrel and nozzle to go high temp. So yes, um2 hotend with anders olsson magic alu coupler and i2k. That will give me flexibility to go pla & high temps :D

My idea it's to have the ruby nozzle, the high temps mod and this will allow me to print anything without changing parts.

Where does this come from?
On their website they say:
we can reach 300C with the supplied thermistor. By swapping a thermistor for a thermocouple (may require additional electronics) you can reach over 400C.

They have two versions for 1.75, one the 'lite' I think it's called. has a inner ptfe liner, on the posts that Foehnsturm did he said he didn't had any trouble printing pla with it. Maybe I read way too many histories of pla blocks, specially related to many retractions (one of the thinks I need for my prints it's lots of retractions). But I have never actually used a e3d hotend.

Now that I see the hotend img, it's true they have a ptfe inside the hotend, maybe because the cooling the ptfe inside doesn't suffer a bit even at 400C. I wonder if someone has experience with that (pla and high temp prints).

Ah yes! The one I have is a 'plain' one, not a lite.
And in 3mm -- I have so many rolls of 3mm, I am not really considering 1.75; but I understand 1.75 is easier to push.

Now as I said I never used it so I can't really comment, but I have seen a lot of positive feedback and very nice complex prints done with it.

I have heard of so much problems with all-metal designs and PLA, so i am a little reluctant to use that for a printer that is going to be used for PLA prints...

I actually think that the UM2 Hotend is more reliable than the UMO one, but that you more rarely hear about problems because of the overpowered feeder of the UMO that can force its way trough a hotend even if it is in bad shape.

I don't know if I'm right but my theory about um2 hotend being better it's that the Screw that goes into the heater block make it more stable and less prone to vibrations.

And I repeat I might be totally wrong with my zero scientific background but...

If you shake a pen, holding it from one end no matter how strong you hold it, the tip on the other end will 'shake' in resonance of the vibration of the force from the end you hold. But with the um2 hotend m3 screw you are able to get the heater block from both sides, and because the area exposed to 'shakes' it's less, it prints better (or with less vibrations). (sorry if something was lost in translation :D )

And that's also, something I want to check. Ofc that also means that any vibration machine vibration could be transferred to the printed material, since that's now the 'tip point'. And that's why at certain speeds (again my own gut theory) um2 makes a moire effect from the motors x/y (this issue that never got a 'fix' on the um forums https://ultimaker.com/en/community/1635 ... pes?page=4 ) and that IMO (again gut felling) could be fixed with a gt32 pulley on the short belt to make the x/y gain resolution (just a theory in mi mind).

Exactly, I don't know how E3D are thinking when they are selling the all metal 3 mm hotend as suitable for PLA.
I mean, it might work if you have exactly the right amount of retraction, a powerful direct feeder, feedrate within certain intervals and so on.
But we had endless trouble with the E3D V5 (or maybe it is V4?) on the Delta Tower before I modified it.

Luckily, making a stainless heatbreak tube with suitable dimensions for teflon lining was a piece of cake for the university workshop :)

And drilled though the heatsink with a 4.0 or 4.1 mm drill, can't remember what size I used.
Since then we haven't had a single issue with filament jamming in the hotend.

If you have issues printing 3 mm PLA with E3D hotends I really recommend this mod.
Maybe one should start selling that heatbreak tube, a suitable drill for the heatsink and some PTFE tube in a kit.. :)

One of my plans for that water cooled hotend is actually to line the cool part it with a piece of ptfe tubing just to get the friction down a bit more, i will probably be using some thicker ptfe tough.

So, it is now alive and printing since a few days ago and it has found its new home in the Stockholm Makerspace 3D Printing room :-)

One thing is still missing, LED Strips, so i have ordered some 24V ones on eBay.

@Dim3nsioneer: it is built from a Ultimaker Original Plus kit, so yes it is a Ultimainboard 2 in it.

@LePaul: i could share the source files for the higher version if you want to build it yourself, i could of course build one for you but it would be crazy expensive after paying for all my hours ;)

@martin-bienz: Yep, a.0.8mm nozzle.
