They mentioned that as a Con on the website, and as UM2 owners, we know it's a challenging filament. I have no use for flexible printing so I'm not worried.

I love my Ultimakers but this printer is so darn cool at way less money. And with the BB-8 project still underway, another printer that can do excellent quality at 1/3 the cost is welcome here! I still have some saving to do to get one. I'm really considering going with the assembled one just so I can have it functioning sooner (but the kit build looks fun!)

Well since it is a pretty short set of tubes due to lateral movement alone, I don't think the impact of it will be as big as what it is for the UM. If it turns out to be an issue I'll just disable the kit when I want to use flexible filament. It doesn't look like its that much work.
I suspect the kit will only include 3 extruder motors so you probably have to move one back to the head and remove the extra "combiner"-piece.
The rest is probably a toggle in the firmware.

I'm curious how it will work with Cura or Simplify3d

Models for multi-color usually consist of different objects that touch each other. In the slicer you are able to select the object and assign it to an extruder. I suspect that finding or making those models will be the biggest issue of all. For me personally the printer was most important, but the idea I might be able to use soluble filament as support was pretty exiting :) I suspect it will be easier to assign the support generation to a different extruder than it will be colors.

Still on backorder... And the multi color upgrade will definitely not come at the same time as the printer since it's to be released on Nov 26

Blizz did you get your kit yet?

No... they keep postponing it with a ton of excuses (Last week "they still had some things to perfect").
I had to order a new piece of protective tape for the heated bed and although it was marked as in stock, it took them a month and a half to ship it. I think they have stopped shipping things as much as possible in the aftermath of that Paypal shit going on and everyone will have to wait. Less than happy atm. The printer is collecting dust.

I'm confused, so you have the printer and awaiting parts? Or an incomplete kit?

I see they are very backlogged in orders.

I have the printer. When I tried to print with it, it was unable to auto-calibrate initially.
Turned out one of the zip ties attaching the heated bed to the rollers came loose because they trimmed it too short.
While investigating that I noticed cracks in the orange printed parts forming the frame that holds the printer upright.
I repaired the zip tie, but left the cracks. They aren't too big and the printer works perfect.

Unfortunately some prints later I broke the PEI sheet. I went to order new ones, which were marked "in stock".
About a month and a half (although it was more like 2 i think) later I PM'ed the support asking about my upgrade kit and my PEI sheets (marked in stock remember?).
The PEI sheets shipped - all of a sudden - the next day. The kit was (at that point) for December (originally it was for November, I ordered in September).

That was also about the moment where the publications came about their issues with paypal and the fact that they didn't get about a million (i think) of their money. I mailed them again later and then it would be released in Januari. On the 27th I mailed them again and then the reply was:
The multimaterial upgrade hasnt been released yet, we need to make sure this product will be 100% working machine and our customers are satisifed with it.
Please give us a bit more time. These upgrades should be ready to dispatch during February.
What I meant with my previous remark was that I think that they are deliberately slacking. Trying to save money until the Paypal thing gets resolved by not sending out much. So I don't have much hope it will actually be February.

Anyway, since I bought the printer for multi color prints and I have to find some Limonene somewhere to get rid of the glue residue of that PEI sheet it is currently gathering dust. Not going to put any effort in it until I get that kit.

I was reading their blog a moment ago and it looks like they only got 1/3 of the funds. PayPal has really put the hurt on them, intentional or not I imagine with the massive demand they have and their finances cut by 1/3, they are trying to stretch what they have

Did you see the Delrin bearings to replace what's in there? A couple good ideas (see the details in the video description)

Thanks for the video. Unfortunately I currently don't feel completely comfortable taking apart that bottom frame, knowing myself it will end up circle shaped instead of square afterwards :)

Edit: I did just order the Limonene though ;)

Cool! Curious to see your results. I wonder if the Bowden performs comparably to the direct drive...

I've very curious to see how challenging that kit is and how well it works, too

About your earlier post with the PEI sheet...how's that holding up over time?

Would glass be better, if not for the auto leveling probe?
