Wifi failure on Pi3 ?

I'm curious if this is a know problem...what's weird is mine was working as recently as a few days ago.

Not showing up on network. Power cycle, green light eventually goes away, leaving just the red illuminated. Green will come and go but largely stay off.

Only thing of importance was there was a network outage yesterday and modem/routers were power cycled....but that shouldn't affect anything.

After a lot of searches....the theme seems to be SD Card failure can cause issues with Pi

However I can read the card fine? I formatted it and re-imaged...problem persists. Looks like a new SD card is needed

Well...here I go again

I moved the printers and the 3 Pi's that worked fine on wireless a week ago...this week, do not work on wireless. No changes. Just...not there. Scanned my network and nothing. Plug in an Ethernet cable and they are there. Looks like I'll wire them in from now on.

Poor signal strength? You can check it with iwconfig:
pi@big-hicci:~ $ iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"gruenet"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.427 GHz Access Point: 92:3B:AD:28:A2:C7
Bit Rate=72.2 Mb/s Tx-Power=31 dBm
Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality=65/70 Signal level=-45 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:115658 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
Unfortunately, the only way to increase it on the PI 3 is some HW hacking.
Alternatively, you can deploy mesh networking throughout your house (this is what I have).

Best is wired if you can arrange it.

No trouble with signal...the move was 3 feet! Just since powered off and on...no wifi connecting to network. Ethernet it is! Tired of messing with it

The thing is that all WiFi devices with built-in antennas...Pi's, mobiles, gadgets etc. is that they are very sensitive to the slightest loss in signal power. So just moving the device a few feets, even rotating it, can result in a loss of connectivity.

That said...wired Ethernet rocks...especially for things that you need to rely on to be available 8-)

I do understand that. It's the second (or maybe third now) time that the Pi's have just randomly lost wifi and refused to find it again. Some mentioned changing the order of interfaces in the set up file....there's a long, long list of hits that come up when you search for this issue.
