I finally got my pi's setup (what is the plural for Octopi - so confused). Little-hicci for the 3DP-17, big-hicci for the CR-10S.

Now I am having 90's flashbacks. What's with the 8.3 file names only?

I'm looking at both Marlin and Octoprint for solutions here. I find it odd that I get at least 40 characters (display width) on the printer displays.

Also, why does it print so slow? Need to look into that. May be worth the time to have Octopi download to SD and then print.

Well if you look at the baud rate versus what could be done via the SD card... :)

But it's the convenience factor.

Need to revisit this post with some updates (for those that are following along):

Turns out, the Marlin firmware only outputs in 8.3 format. See https://github.com/foosel/OctoPrint/issues/1600.

Actually, it only reports that it is printing much slower, if you look at the "Approx. Total Print Time:" in the sidebar "State" section. If you look at the GCode Viewer tab, you will get an estimate that is much closer to Cura's est printing time.
