printer totally a mess and i cant seem to sort it

have a HicTop hictop prusa i3 aluminum from china printer and was told to update the firmware. ever since then it not printed anything right after reading trough the forums here, i have managed to get it printing but not correctly.

the printer starts off on a test print of a 20mm shape its ok when doing the raft then once it starts to do the shape
the z axis moves up to fast on each slice so i just get a spiral of filament spinning off the raft

and if i do actually get it to do anything near printing when the nozzle lifts up it leaves a string of filament and it all mounts up to a spiky mess.

i am using marlin viewtopic.php?f=51&t=298

and was advised to use repetier server so i have bought it and still cant get a solid print from the machine.
i also have auto bed leveling. even that isnt working correctly it does the levling thing and one side is about .5mm out

Your steps are probably off.

Most of the posted alternate firmware for the Hictop use the Z values from the old 8mm leadscrew configuration, newer hictops have proper leadscrews. The value for the newer leadscrews is about 1/8th of what's in there for the old metric 8 pitch leadscrews.

rcabor is correct - try moving default steps for Z to a value near 398.

why 398?
i made my calculations and came to the number of 400 and my prints are perfectly beautiful on Z

i have 8mm leadscrews with 4start 2mm pitch which is 8mm travel per rotation....

Hictop Firmware sets 398 for leadscrew printers afaik, name of Hictop firmware supplied with leadscrew printers Marlin_3DP??_398.cpp and it's a lot closer than 2560 which dmkmedia has in his firmware posted above. Using 398 myself and more than satisfied with z action and print quality. But may try 400 just for the heck of it.

give it a shot for sure, when u use the leadscrew calculator online, you can validate...just make sure it does say the 8mm pitch our leadscrews have
