SOFTWARE QUESTION from a newbie WANTING to learm!

Team,
I have seen a ton of great information here, so I have no doubt that there should be some really great answers for this as well.

I'm REALLY new, I bought a used Mono Price m200 and have a PRUSA in the box waiting to be assembled.

I also have a ciclop "3d scanner" that Ive had fun learning with as well.

But when it comes to the 3D printing part the one HUGE gap in my knowledge is in software use, I'm missing the basics. I've assembled some of what I have been told is the best "open source" and low cost slicers and design packages that there are, but from YOUR OPINION, what would you use to learn to do THIS:

I want to teach my boy, a middle schooler, about 3d printing and design, and one of the basic skills that I think everyone should master in the world of 3d manipulation is modifying a pre-existing design.

For example, Charlie needs to Print a body for a "Robot Car" he's assembled and is adding on to, but the shell he found on THingverse is too small by almost 30%.

So if you wanted to load a model into a SW Package and find a simple process of increasing it 30% what would you use, AND is there a HOW TO on how to resize things in it?

Again, I know that this isn't very original, but its like playing the guitar, if you were a teenager in the 80's are you going to learn more playing "greensleeves" or AC/DC ?

So he has the robot car, but because of the extra sensors he's added to it and the additional arms he's plugged in, it needs a bigger shell, He's already excited about the car, now to get him into learning to manipulate the printer, I want him to be excited about learning about it.

Getting him to 'learn' about what makes the car a robot, was tough enough.......

any and all info is eagerly awaited.

Thanks

J

I would Use Any Cura slicer and scale the model by 30%,
Though you most likely could use any slicer and scale it by 30%

Cura is very powerful and can be a bit overwhelming when you look at the settings menu, but the default setup is very easy to work with. Plus it supports most printer without any adjustments. And it is free.

I should have noted: after you have calculated and adjusted the models new size to what is required.
This new model can then be saved with the new settings.
