Hi all, we (Susie and me) have had a bit of a traumatic week this past week.
Unfortunately on Monday mid-day Sues father had a massive stroke from which the doctors said there was no possible recovery and he passed away on Wednesday morning.

Paul is going to have to create another area for the ONO printer

That printer looks interesting, and at $100 (US), almost too good to be true. Only thing I don't like is that it uses a cell phone to print. I'll have to either get a cheap disposable or keep one of the family plan phones when we upgrade (again). I wonder how well it does with the Samsung Galaxy Edge series?

I've had a fun weekend

I've discovered two Ultimaker 3's running is a pretty big power draw...I think they are the source of some of the flickering lights and power anomalies I have had while they do a print job! The power specs on the website show the power requirements are the same but in reality, I am starting to think it's much higher. It's that or I need the Ghostbusters to eliminate the ghost!

I also had some time to piece together the frame of the Folger Tech FT-5 with my friend, Fred. The instructions are pretty bad and the bags and bags of accessories are just stuffed in large bags. A lot of time is wasted sorting through bags of screws. On one hand, sure, it's a cheap printer kit. On the other, it would be nice if they did what the Ultimaker kits do...everything is individually bagged with a label stating what is inside. And the directions are poor, at best. Again, it would be nice if they used drawings (again, like the Ultimaker instructions) versus low res photos. We wasted a lot of time scrolling back and forth trying to figure out what the directions were trying to describe and the end result.

Despite all of that, we got something done.

The Ultimaker 3 got the exact same power supply and the same heated bed, the only (larger) difference in power should be that it got two heaters for the print head.

If those are making your power flicker... Then you got a supply problem...

If those are making your power flicker... Then you got a supply problem...

I always got flickering lights on umo+ using bed pid. Also on um3 when I manually changed th heating while it went on or turned the fan for fun (and shake of testing).

Curiously enough, with the duet3d (and same components used on umo+2) I get zero flickering on leds. Same pid bed and startup sequence.

Well let's clarify as I sit in a darkened home!

Yesterday I asked the power company to inspect to power feed into my home. My electrician suggested starting there

The power company found a severely corroded neutral wire in the meter box and deemed it unsafe, shutting off the electricity. I couldn't get my electrician here until this morning.

The cause...water coming down the wire into the meter. And it also went into my circuit breaker box in the house. Thankfully little damage there. For now, they are replacing the neutral segment of the box and the 100 amp breaker on the circuit box. They advise a more permanent fix in the future, moving where the feed wires attach to the power lines to prevent water/water condensation dripping in. Three weeks of rain is what really provoked this. The timing of when the Ultimaker 3's got out into service!

With random outlets failing, flickering lights...it was. Spinning to feel like a haunting!
