Got it! When you leave a comment, thread does not appear in the subscription automatically. it needs to be added manually. This can be automated? Also it would be nice to make a weekly digest, just in case I missed something. And Yes! Tapatalk! It can be activated in the settings of the Board? In new version they haave a push notifications, compatible with phpbb, and its work fine under andriod.

Hi Ivan

Well the thought from the phpBB developers is a good one....let the users select what settings they want, especially when it comes to disturbing them with email. That makes sense. I know I got tired of constant emails from Ultimaker's forums when they turned out to be a ghost notifications.

There's a few discussions about Tapatalk as well. I use it as well. I am trying to see how to best implement it without causing headaches for software upgrades to the forum. If I hand-change the code a lot , that means a lot of work getting it all back for an upgrade :)

But please keep the suggestions coming!

On reflection, I came to the following conclusion: the bookmarking is a reminder to myself, and so should be meaningful action. In any case, if possible in the forum settings to give a choice between automatic subscription to topics commented on, and manual mode, then perhaps it would be correct to give the user this choice.

It is a preference in your profile (Control panel / Board Preference / Posting defaults)

First of all, I LOVE THE PHPBB forum!! Finally a good old, actual forum :)

But for my taste, there's too many categories!

For example, "show off your latest print" could just as well be one topic inside the General 3D Printing Conversation category. Why make a new topic for every print someone made?

Special filaments have 2 categories.

I would also make "Using different nozzle sizes" and "Post-Processing your prints" both just topics inside a more general "Tips & Tricks" category, instead of having a category for each of them.

A slimmer overview is more comfortable to look at - and navigate - than a bulky view with 1001 different categories.
Btw, no shame in starting a topic (instead of a detail category) and actually leaving it empty for the moment.

/edit:
One more thing:
I loved the "like" feature on the UM forum. It's a very efficient way to thank people for posting interesting stuff without having to crowd the discussion with "meaningless" posts. There's got to be a plugin for that? No need to make statistics and rankings, but just the ability to one-click-like stuff would be cool ;)

I've been looking for a phpBB mod that offers that "Like" option too. The 3.1.x is new from the 3.0 that was out. The amount of mods for this version is a bit limited. But it is something I am keeping an eye out for,

I agree that we don't want the list of categories too long...but I am going to give it some time before i do some of the condensing you have suggested.

I agree with the feedback on to many categories. Like that reprap build. Once there's a lot of people posting about the same printer in general topics, then split it, for now it seems useless.

Not sure what I think about the likes though. Never use it.

phpBB offers subforums, which is how i initially had it setup. But, i wanted to get the categories setup first...then I can always go back and set them to appear under the topic...give it some time and I'll change the setting in one of the areas.

Check out what i did to RepRap and the Filament section....was that what you were thinking?

I need to clean that up a bit, layout wise...getting rid of the 'Forum" placeholder.

But if that is what you guys prefer, i can do that

Okay I went ahead (it's good to be king... :) )

I don't want to shrink down too many areas...but I agree that the ones that have potential to have many sub-topics looks better this way
