Reasons for starting a new Ultimaker forum

Post by Anders Olsson »

So, here are the numbers I have managed to collect so far, clearly showing what impact the new Ultimaker forum software had on the community:

I am still working on all the settings so please be patient if you see problems! It has been a few years since I set up a web forum.

It already looks, and works, way better than the official Ultimaker forum though I would say :-)

Well recall that we all love our Ultimaker printers.

This is just another fun place for us to hang out and share. I still hope to see Ultimaker's site improve. But for those who detest the site, I hope they find their way here. There's many I learned a great deal from and miss seeing them post there

Hi there,
Indeed, the funny and the sad fact is, that on the day 2, with no budget and manpower, this forum looks and works better than the "new" UM forum about 10 months into its unfortunate existence.
However, I have very uneasy feelings about the new forum, for all the obvious reasons. Perhaps, the best it could do is to put the required pressure on the responsible UM people to get them back to the reality. Let's see...

So, on one hand I also have this feeling that it would be better if Ultimaker could do something about their forum.
Considering that nothing really happened so far and that they still seem not to understand the issue, I think that it is unlikely that we will see the major change that would be needed though.

On the other hand, I also think that Ultimaker has sold enough machines now days to have enough users for two forums to coexist :-)
If the users that dropped of from the old forum came here, that alone would be enough to create a really interesting forum!

I would not mind if this forum was more into the technical/hacking/professional use, as Ultimakers official forum has become more of a support forum for beginners.
One would potentially have a bit more freedom to discuss rumors about future Ultimaker machines and such things here, without risking that someone edits the post :-)

Well, I will say this much...you got their attention. I've had a long message conversation with them.

At some point I wouldn't visit the support forum for beginners anymore, atleast not to ask questions, all the pro's will be here ;)

That being said, we'll see where this takes us. I do like the information density, just got to find my flow here.

Yes....I jested and said 'Hey I can register a domain and load some forum software'...then Anders said "Yes! Do it!"...so I did.

And here we are.
