Board layout question...

On the home page, do you think I should move the general section down under, say, "Filaments"?
Maybe less scrolling for the busier posting areas? (Or leave things alone)

I usually go straight to unread posts, and then glance to see if there's something interesting, but alphabetically would be good

Same for me - the unread page is my starting point. I would only wish for the forum to kick me back to the unread page after pressing "mark all read"
