Rubbing on travel move

Post by LePaul » June 20th, 2017, 10:50 pm

Do you use anything under "Retraction" and "Retraction Vertical Lift" ?

I have on one print, Cura literally drags across and knocks over the support material

Trying on S3D and it's not nearly as bad, but on the last section where it travels back across, it's dragging the nozzle a bit.

I'm wondering if that setting would act like Z-Hop and lower the Z slightly to ensure the nozzle clears the object

I was thinking of setting it to 0.20 or 0.40

("only retract when crossing open spaces" is disabled on the Advanced tab)

I use Z-hop a lot, it helps to keep fragile parts from being bumped by the nozzle,
I still have some flow trouble/adjustments to do, and some filament is extruded more then I want to, this gives some bumps on the surface.

it only extends the printing time by a small margin.

It's more noticeable on prints that require a lot of bottom support (odd/curved shapes) for me.

S3D handles them better than Cura, I find. I printed a fan duct for my other printer and Cura kept knocking the print down. It came out great the first time on S3D

Would adjusting "Retraction Vertical Lift" and a setting of 0.2 do the same as Cura's Z hop when retracted?
