Fixed the problem belt

Test print great

Doing a bigger one now

Question ...how to address the 'blob' that accumulates and drops on the print?

...well lowering temp to 250C made big difference...now for the poor print head to travel over those "bumps"

To fix the blob, posible options:

- Print slower
- Combing off
- Slowdown the print for a moment and use a peace of filament to capture the excess every 30mins
- Use a little bit of fan (but will affect the print)

Retracts also helps, but you need to change retract speed to 15mm/s and minimum distance to 3-4mm (that's what I do for colorfabb carbon so cfxt should be different but alike).

That's what I'm using for filament

It's a fun filament to experiment with, the matte finish is beautiful and you barely see the layer lines.

250 went well but I still have a few minor blobs that appeared. I made two test parts, BB-8's holographic projector and the surround for his "eye" piece.

The details need some work on the holographic projector (top especially)

The bigger piece has those blobs that cleaned up easy and some minor stringing. Pics next

Good tips. I am printing at 40 mm/sec and 35 mm/sec is my next try

The filament curls a lot in the ruby nozzle and generates that blob early on. I try to snag it while it is doing the skirt

Combing...Expert settings, right? Set to off...can try that.

I think I'll leave the fan off since I lack a shroud :)

That close-up. Are you sure the coupler it's in good condition? If you check it, look if there's brown-sticky goo between the coupler/peek/barrel.

Best way to check a coupler it's to insert it on a filament piece and spin it. If it woobles weird the coupler might lost it's center due use/preassure.

You know, just once I'd like to do a print that doesn't require dismantling this damn printer :)

I have less that 200 hours on the printer so I don't think it's gone bad....just need to refine my settings based on your input

A ptfe coupler can die in 50h use... YOU NEVER CHANGED IT??... ok... 200h print time.. Normal life of a coupler it's 100h, the rest of the time it's just the umo gear extruder it's really really strong and can overcome most of the problems. Ok, your coupler it's dead =)

Btw one of the bad thinks of a bad coupler, it's that it might leave a gap between the barrel/ptfe coupler, there the GOO deposits, and if you change colors you will have color contamination (unless you do an atomic pull without the coupler and all dismanted in the air like I did to my monthly maintenance routine). So, if you print a BB8 white and shinny, if you ever see dark spots on the print remember the GOOOOO (scary voice here) XD

No, for real, your coupler it's dead dead.

Paging Dr Neotko.....what are the symptoms of ptfe death in a UMO? I'm curious what you saw in my prints that brought out this theory? I have a spare one, I just want to be sure I understand the cause and effect :)

On umo with gear to power all it's very hard to debug it. Since I only use IRobertI without gears I get a very hard to see underextrusion on the last 20-30h of life. When it's dead (but it can still work) I start to get a very small underextrusion. But, the most clear sign it's color contamination (I use 6 different faber colors for my shop and 5 others for other customers) so I do 3-5 atomics a day easily. Also I need to maintain the nozzle shiny and bright to avoid color contamination. So.. The first sign of a dead coupler it's that there's a brown goo that deposits between the barrel/coupler that travels with the filament and craps on my prints. That's when I unscrew the hotend and check the coupler. I just insert a filament peace and spin it. Usually the first think to deform it's the tip goes offcenter. It can work, but not without color contamination. Then I do an atomic of the barrel/peek without the coupler to clean any brown goo, put a new coupler, and enjoy my 200-300h of coupler life.

I use a 5v fan pointing to the peek-coupler area to get some extra life.

Also I use couplers that I bough in china to a trusted seller. They deliver a perfect size cloned coupler. I can't wait for the Swordriff TFM coupler version, with that I won't have to change them every month.

On the underextrusion between the islands. That looks like preassure fluctuations that doesn't allow the filament to land correctly. Do they break by hand easy?
