Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day

Well a few updates on that frame and hub project... 1) I've pretty much given up on CF20. Good horizontal strength but terrible vertical. I did a few test pieces with 100% infill and I'm convinced they will snap and break if used in this project. (All the test ones did!) 2) nGen prints nice after a ...

Re: nGen ?

I've done a number of these parts now...and it seems only nGen can eliminate the "hairy" effects that PLA shows on the bottom of this piece. I originally did 8 with 25% infill with PLA but I decided to make some with 50% infill since the aluminum frame attachment spots could stand to be be...

Custom support structures would be great, I agree.

Re: Um2 hotend design questions

Oh that's the worst spending so much time debugging instead of printing

I noticed a few posters saying they have the Bondtech feeder and it works well for them

Re: Cura 2.1.2

Well here's my experience with 2.1.2 so far.... Overall, the prints I have been working on the past 2 days (8 items, each 6.5 hours) look good. I still have stringing of this circular part but it seems 2.1.2 works a bit better at it that 15.04.2 Coasting seems to be very effective in helping the ret...

Re: Kicking up filament?

I'm not sure this is bed height. The nozzle was clean

Now on this print, same object, with Cura 2.1.2 and coasting, the last edges weren't kicked up as before

Kicking up filament?

I've noticed that while doing a print today, it lays the first portion down perfect but it quickly retracts and peels up the edge. On later layers it leaves behind some material

Is my retract too fast? Too much distance?

Re: nGen ?

I'm not sure what coasting does but my nGen print was alright , not super. A few gaps. But this stuff bridges well, minimal 'hairs' around the circle. And compared to the PLA prints, the back is a lot nicer PLA on right image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg It took a lot longer than the PLA version (4.5 ...

Re: ColorFabb XT-CF20 Carbon Fiber Filament

I gave this stuff another try using the shroud side piece as a test piece (as I did nGen) The new settings from ColorFabb helped some...I don't know if it's the ruby nozzle or not but filament quickly curls up and blobs on the nozzle. Or maybe that's the filament. I did find keeping the retractions ...

Same here!

I read the marketing hype but little empirical data / before and after stories to 'sell' me on it

Re: nGen ?

Interesting on the first layer. Maybe retraction is too high. It seems to flip the edges up on portions of the layer. A few more layers now flattened it out

nGenHub.jpg
I think I found it...Cura 2.1.2 didn't have the right retraction settings (25mm/sec and 3.5mm)

Using the settings from ColorFabb for retraction
