Re: How much should a good 3D printer cost?
@jonnybischof You might want to check the UM forum in near future. SandervG, the community manager, already mentioned there might be something happening there. ... I remember him saying that a long time ago, just shortly after the forum launched :-P Truth is, I don't care anymore. I have found othe...

Re: How much should a good 3D printer cost?
Well, I used to like them, and in fact my first and only printer to this date is the Ultimaker Original kit I bought about 4 years ago. Print quality is pretty bad, but it does still work with minimal maintenance and almost no repairs. I lost my interest in Ultimaker when they moved to an unusable f...

Re: Suddenly my SD card isn't read by my printer
Don't forget to use the SD card formatter tool, and not windows / MacOS to format the card. I had some SD card issues when I started using my Ultimaker, but I've since formatted it with the tool and never had any issues after that. Except that one SD card cracked and wouldn't fit into the card holde...

Re: Digital Infrared Thermometer
Mine (Voltcraft something) does not work at all on the hotend parts of the printer. It shows around 50°C. I suppose the measuring area is too large (1" sweet-spot) and the reflecting metal doesn't really get picked up. It works more or less on my PEI build surface. Can not recommend the Voltcra...

Wow. That's how you ship a 3D printer kit! Looks like they actually want to deliver a good product

Re: Delta Tower heated bed upgrade
Playing around with my own delta printer design again... I really like the idea of delta 3D printers. They look so much cooler than cartesian printers while working, and they can also be made cheaper than cartesian ones since they don't need a lot of components. I'm trying to work out the details of...

Re: CoreXY + a-la-um2frame + Internal rails + Duet3D = Woa
The build looks awesome indeed! Probably very tedious and complex to build (so, not a good idea to sell these as diy kits) but the result is really impressive. It's close to what I wanted to build for my third prototype. But I didn't even get past assembling the aluminum frame - it was too much of a...

Re: 3D Gecko printer
Well, when you buy a China printer, you have to be prepared for that... If you buy a cheap product, you get a cheap product. What I find much more annoying is when you buy an expensive product that is hardly any better!

Re: 3D Gecko printer
... The assembly manual looks really decent (its on the Facebook group posted on the main link). Also, I seen others unpacking and they send everything with a good box, I seen many aliexpress sellers sending the stuff on the worst imaginable boxes. Good indicator indeed. Well, we're all eagerly awa...

Re: 3D Gecko printer
I'd also consider 2020 to be too flimsy for anything but a very small printer (like 150x150x150 mm build volume). 2040 is a good upgrade, but probably more important than that is the question of how the beams are connected to each other. Doesn't matter if you have rock solid beams if you use flimsy ...

Re: The Z Coupler!
Omg, is someone seriously still doing that :D It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell that using a flexible coupling there is a really bad idea. I'd also recommend an Oldham coupler similar to the one you found there on Amazon. Personally, I'd go with a quality brand product, but these thi...

Re: 3D Gecko printer
It's certainly an interesting idea to move the xy-gantry instead of the build platform. However, I doubt that it makes a difference in practice because while the build platform is now sturdy and inert - the xy-gantry is not anymore... (or is it? That is the question...). I suppose it depends on whic...

Did my first steps with TIG-welding this weekend! It didn't work out yet (just melted and burned steel), but I'm still alive and the equipment is ok, too. So far, so good

Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day
Almost done setting up my new TIG welder. Now I only need to sharpen the tungsten electrode (thinking about making a diy electrode sharpener) and put everything together. Should get the first results next weekend, hopefully.
