Re: My short To Do list

Good point... So instead of replying to a question (in detail) directly, one would open a new thread with a grippy title, explain everything and then link that topic. And make it sticky. Sounds great!

Re: Best speed and temps?

I usually print hot AND slow, because I want strong parts and don't have much detail.. I'd love to see someone trying to put this situation into a physical (mathematical) approximation. I'm not that good with numbers, but in the end it comes down to the fact that extruding thermoplastic is "jus...

Re: My short To Do list

Wiki: I think it could be very useful, IF the people use it right. For example, on the Ultimaker forum I have explained electronics basics numerous times. If there was a forum wiki I could answer questions like these with a wiki entry and link it. Then just keep linking it whenever people ask the sa...

Testing... https://www.dim3nsions.ch/ (I'm of course not intending to make any kind of advertisement here ;)) /edit: So, for me it doesn't matter whether or not I click, or ctrl+click on a link, it opens it up in a new tab with focus either way. Win7, Firefox. If I de-select the "open links in ...

Re: Tunell Filament Monitor - Source in Europe?

Ok, I forgot to mention that you'd have to pair that with a feeder that will rather skip steps than let the filament slip / rip it up.
But I'm afraid we're still a long way from getting there anyways...

Re: Feedback...how's it look?

Just noticed there's no section for electronics stuff! How could you forget about that!!   But jokes aside... How about: Change the "Software" category to "Software and Electronics" And add an "Electronics" forum there. You could make a separate categ...

Re: Tunell Filament Monitor - Source in Europe?

Throwing in an additional thing: There are stepper motor drivers (TMC2130) that can detect skipped steps and report them back to the controller. Using this would make the more complex sensor solutions unnecessary (in addition to also be able to correct any skipped steps on XYZ!). The only little thi...

Re: Calibration using laser beam

The problem about most of these sensors is that you will need 0.01mm accuracy in order to be able to justify the high cost of such a setup. Like Izzy described, you can go 0.1 or even 0.05mm without any hokus-pokus, and without too much hassle. Don't forget that if a sensor's datasheet says 0.01mm, ...

Re: Fan shroud upgrade

"Actual" PWM fans always have 4 wires. VCC (red), GND (black), RPM signal (usually yellow), PWM input (blue afaik, but could be different). The PWM input goes into a transistor inside the fan that properly implements PWM control. That also means that the PWM signal does not carry any curre...

Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day

I've been thinking about building a CNC router for quite some time now. Will probably start drawing it up very soon. It'll probably come out way too expensive because Misumi, but I need something very sturdy and vibration-free. Having trouble cutting HPL plates - the tools keep breaking after a few ...

Re: Discussion: Collaborative 3D model library

GrabCAD and 3DContentCentral are perfect examples of what I don't want to make :) BOLTS is actually much more like it, but it's more or less restricted to OpenSCAD, and it's web-based which would be too much of a hassle to maintain. Maybe a bit more details about what I'm imagining: On the user side...

Re: Discussion: Collaborative 3D model library

Well, IGES is a dead format. Yes, it's supported by most programs, but still the format is old, and lacks some important "new" features that CAD systems have developed over the last years.

DSM is a free version of SC. Both are windows only, that's true. Well, technical engineering is pretty much windows only anyways. (Please don't kill me for saying that :P)
DSM seems to be taken from som early version of SC. It's really no comparison to the current version of SC...
