Re: Quiet 3D printer

I am now ready to install the TMC2130's.
I noticed there is extra wiring involved and it seems to take out the LCD screen, is that correct for the FT5?

Re: J-Head not working.

Hi all I had a bit of time so I had another look at this. I got another J head and tried it. I set it up so the head was fixed to the frame so it would be easy to change things. I was only going to extrude filament not do any printing. I used ABS with the hot end set to 230°C, I could push the filam...

Re: Welcome, where are you from?

Costa Blanca, Spain (Born in England).
On a steep learning curve with 3D printing.
Folger FT5, it arrived about a years ago, spent 3 months building it, with 2 months gap in the middle for summer.
Using printer to build prototypes, thing for the house and fun stuff.
Thinking about a second printer.

Re: Layer splitting with ABS

I tried to set the FT5 to 250°C but it kept stopping with MAX TEMP, so I had to reset it, Like I said the FT5 can only go to 240. I have tried various wall sections but the layers still split. I am thinking of getting another printer anyway, possible a smaller one. I'll also look at these materials:...

What materials have you used on the FT5?

Hi all I have been printing on the FT5 for a few months now and I am looking at different material. I started with PLA and am now using ABS, great on smaller parts, problems with larger parts. I was looking at PETG but it seems the recommended temperature of the nozzle is too high for the Folger FT5...

Re: Layer splitting with ABS

Hi thanks for the reply.
The Folger FT5 can only go to 240°C also the manufacture recommends 220-240 so I am working at the top end.
The walls are 1mm thick with infill, do you think this is thick enough?

Re: Layer splitting with ABS

I have put a thermometer inside and it get's up to the high 30's, perhaps I need to plug the small gaps.

Re: HicTop 3DP12 Newb aid needed!

Hi I use Solidworks. I export the files to .stl. I them import then into Cura to do the slicing and export a file that I put on a SD card that goes into the printer. You can also connect via USB using Pronterface. I would think any 3D CAD system should be able to export a .stl file. Does all this ma...

Re: Heated bed adhesion

Hi all
I have been using these mats and they work very well with ABS.
If you get the nozzle too close to the bed it's very difficult to get the parts off. I use a thin scraper to get them off.

Layer splitting with ABS

Hi all I have a problem with ABS that I can't seem to solve. The layers are splitting when I print ABS with a z height of more than about 10mm, see photo. I have a Folger FT5 and am printing with a heated bed at 100°C and a 0.4mm nozzle at 240°C (up from 230°C) and layers at 0.25mm Print speed is 60...

Re: Getting the Tevo Tornado first prints going!

I know some one who has a CR-10. The bed dips in the middle and it's impossible to get the bed to 100°C, it takes about 45 mins to get it to 95°C and it's in an enclosure!!! Is the Tevo reliable, or haven't you used it enough yet? I am now doing a lot of ABS printing as I am making prototypes and so...

Re: Getting the Tevo Tornado first prints going!

Hi Paul You removed the surface of the bed you said you didn't like it, why was that. I am trying different thing to print ABS on a Folger FT5. I tried slurry and glue. The results were OK-ish. I have put it in an enclosure and bought a plastic mat. The mat seems to work OK but after a few prints lo...

Re: 3.3.1 Cura takes an hour longer!

I reported the issue and it seems to have been resolved, it didn't take long.
It's just as well I left version 3.2.1 on the PC when I upgraded to 3.3.1,
I can use the older version to get quicker prints.

ps I wasn't complaining I was just letting everyone know
