Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day

Hello friends, I have been inactive here for quite a while, because of job related reasons. Also I noticed I had to setup my notifications properly :) Hope you are all doing well! There was not much printing going on, but I got some new multimeters (Fluke 8020B and a NOS Voltcraft / HungChang 6010)....

Re: Design theory and chaos

Thanks guys! I appreciate that :) Maybe I should have included the german version in the post above, but did not really think about it since everything here is in english... Edited the original post accordingly. Regarding a translation to Russian: Why not! I am still not too sharp on the actual purp...

Re: Ultimaker 2+ feeder re-assembly!

Your Model is not watertight. (purple edge)
This »should« be corrected by the slicer, but you never know. The strangest issues arise from minor file defects like this :)

Re: What ISP programmer to get?

Finally! We are back in business :)

After buying a new programmer Diamex Prog-S2 the upload worked at the first try - as if nothing ever happened...

Edit: Just for reference, the Diamex programmer works in OS X – no specific drivers needed.

Re: What ISP programmer to get?

You are right, usually firmware upload to the board should be just like any other Arduino. The Ulti Mainboard rev 2.1.1 features a MEGA16u2 - just like Arduino Uno - so no FTDI drivers involved (though I think there are both WCH and FTDI drivers installed from some other Arduino experiments). As the...

Re: What ISP programmer to get?

Nothing else connected means no external hardware (sensors, steppers, ...).
Board won't power up with only USB connected, so external power is supplied.

I'm on 10.11.6 – not the smartest move to upgrade from Yosemite, but that's what I am stuck with for the moment.

Re: What ISP programmer to get?

Rewriting the bootloader was my first attempt. Upload via Arduino IDE failed because of mismatch error (either IDE 1.0.6 and 1.8.1). avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0000 Working procedure: unlock fuses avrdude -c usbtiny -p m2560 -e -u -U lock:w:0x3F:m -U efuse:w:0xFD:m -U hfus...

What ISP programmer to get?

I managed to brick my Ultiboard 2.1.1 with a failed firmware upgrade through some upload quirks. (I HATE OS X and its USB issues!) So I thought: Just reprogram the ATMega2560 with my USBtinyISP and I am good to go. But: NO! Not so fast! USBtinyISP can only handle uploads up to 64k and as the Marlin ...

Design theory and chaos

Dear forum! Knowing, that you are all coming from the most diverse professional backgrounds and posses a lot of different skills, I would love to get some opinions! Currently I am studying for a Master's degree in »Communication Design and Product Design« at University of Applied Sciences Aachen. Ha...

Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day

The bad side...well, kids and adults don't always respect your creation. Hitting it, pushing on doors and lighting to the point of breaking, forcing opening motorized panels. A lot of repairs that took hours to fit, leading me at times to wonder why I do this to myself! You need to incorporate a za...

twoBEars bioFila linen

As I could not find much on said filament here (only one mention by Izzy), I wanted to share my opinion on this. First of all: It is pretty expensive (±50€ / kg), so why bother dealing with it? I bought a spool back when twoBEars first introduced the new material. It came on a cardboard spool which ...

Re: Anyone using PETG herer?

Pretty old thread, but anyway: I really like printing PETG. dasfilament.de is where I get mine from (Germany). There is significantly more shrinkage to it than PLA, but not nearly as bad as ABS. Overall handling and print quality is very nice, but it needs more stickyness (lots of gluestick) on the ...

Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day

Hey nallath, I never said engineering and I may be biased as I have to defend myself as a designer oh so often. Living in Aachen, very close to the dutch and belgian border it is somehow an every day thing between my colleagues and me to toss around some minor insults playing with stereotypes on nat...

Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day

Good one Jonny! xD In german there is the word "Blender" meaning someone who acts with a lot of show and shine but can not live up to his promises afterwards. For example you see a lot of fancy looking stuff at "dutch design week" in Eindhoven every year, but if you ask more unde...

Re: A Tea between friends :-) How was Your Day

Like the um3 bed. Downside is that it ends full of crap and you need a blower to push it out. The other think that um3 bed has is that the bearings are slightly rotated to distribute the weight and cut vibrations. Also is thinner and has less weight. No, the UM3 bed to me is another example of a ve...
