For your first issue, you would need to modify the Marlin firmware to either specify your exact steps or at the very least allow you to save settings to the EEPROM. May I suggest taking the quad-y-linear bearings to the next step? I upgraded to supported 12mm with adjustable bearings and won't go back. Chip, Thank you for your work on this and sharing your results. You seem to have asked all the questions I did not know to ask. A quick change I'd like to point out for those with the the 1.4 board and/or 8mm lead screw as opposed to threaded rod. Z-steps: start at 396 and calibrate from there.
